One of them, Seymour, whips out a handkercheif and mops his sweaty brow, unused to the heat. His companion, a plump named James, makes a quick sidestep to avoid a dirty child careening down the road on a battered bicycle. They have started to attract stares- the likes of the pair don't usually visit this neighborhood. "Well, James, shall we go in? Seymour asks, finally, after a long and uncomfortable silence. "Right, yes, we might as well


100 themes 5- Seeking SolaceThe little bird at the window is incessant. Perhaps he fancies himself a Raven, the likes of which Poe wrote, croaking until he digs under the consciousness of a human. Or perhaps he just wants inside, away from the rain and the wind that beats at his wings instead of the other way around. He will tap until he has to move on again or until someone opens the window and lets he inside. Admittedly, he is not quite sure of what he might do once granted entry to an actual house- there are few things in the mind of a bird that involve foresight. Im afraid I cannot offer any of these things- my version of comfort is not something that would send you peacefully to sleep. There are tales I can tell, of course, threads of stories I can wind together, but now, in the dark, they wouldnt do you much good. Can you feel your pulse quicken, darling?
